The Compressor Plus Germanium uses a germanium transistor as a buffer and tone- shaping stage, not an amplifier, and that’s an important distinction. The goal isn’t to turn the Compressor into a fuzz or overdrive. Instead, germanium is used where it can do something uniquely musical: soften the edge of high frequencies and distorted signals, sustain and bloom more naturally for even more touch-sensitive and dynamic response, and saturate in a way that’s more pleasing and less harsh. All of this comes without the added noise or loss of headroom associated with germanium equipped circuits. Now add Keeley’s super silent switching buffer, selectable true bypass or buffered operation, 9-18V compatibility, ultra-low current draw, all housed in a proprietary battle tested enclosure.
