A rosewood-bodied J-45 Workhorse:
The J-45 is Gibson’s best-selling acoustic of all time. Nicknamed “The Workhorse” and introduced in 1942, this iconic acoustic has become the cornerstone of Gibson’s round-shoulder dreadnought line. The J-45 Standard Rosewood delivers all of the playing and sonic characteristics expected from the world-renowned J-45, with slightly fuller bass response and greater overtone complexity from the rosewood back and sides, giving this version a voice all its own. It now comes equipped with the Gibson-exclusive, custom-voiced Baggs HiFi DNA pickup system, delivering the guitar’s distinctive voice and every nuance of your playing with exceptional realism when amplified.

The J-45 Standard Rosewood features a round-shoulder dreadnought body crafted with solid rosewood back and sides paired with a solid Sitka spruce top. Scalloped X-bracing supports the top, which is framed with multi-ply binding, while the back features single-ply binding. The gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish complements the darker tonewoods and gives this version a distinctive visual identity.

The mahogany neck features a fast, comfortable SlimTaper profile and is attached to the body with a compound dovetail neck-to-body joint using hot hide glue. The neck is topped with a bound Indian rosewood fretboard with a 12-inch radius, 20 standard frets, and mother-of-pearl dot inlays. The headstock displays the Gibson logo inlaid in mother of pearl and is equipped with gold Grover Rotomatic tuning machines. Together with the TUSQ nut, they provide smooth operation and reliable tuning stability.

The reverse-belly bridge is crafted from rosewood and equipped with a TUSQ saddle and bridge pins. A tortoiseshell teardrop pickguard completes the familiar J-45 appearance.

Inside, the J-45 Standard Rosewood is now equipped with the all-new Gibson-exclusive Baggs HiFi DNA pickup system. This active system uses two lightweight sensors mounted on the internal bridge plate. The sensors are matched with optimized individual preamps to deliver full-bodied, amplified acoustic tone that lets the guitar’s character and personality come through when amplified, with no impact on the unamplified tone. The Baggs HiFi DNA system offers comparable gain-before-feedback to an under-saddle pickup. The system also includes soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls that are quick and easy to access while playing, and all but invisible to your audience.

The J-45 Standard Rosewood combines the familiar feel and balanced response of the Workhorse with the expanded tonal character of rosewood. It comes ready for the stage and studio in a Gibson hardshell case.
