Here at N Stuff Music we sell the best in guitar speaker cabinets so that you can have the exact speaker cabinet that will produce the sound of your favorite amps in the best way possible. What are speaker cabinets for, some of you may be asking. A speaker cabinet is made for a power amp without a speaker to run through and have its sound produced. Speaker cabinets can also be used as an extension cabinet for a combo amp given that the combo amp has an output for an external speaker.

Many guitar amplifiers, especially tube amplifiers, are made in the platform of what we call a “head”. The “head” version of an amplifier is all of the circuitry, tone stacks, gain, tubes, power, and everything except for the speaker and cabinet portion of a combo amp. Heads are then used in combination with a guitar speaker cabinet to produce the sound that is created and powered by the amp head.

One important thing to note is that a speaker cabinet requires a power amp in order to produce sound. The speaker cabinet simply houses the speaker(s) and does not run power at all therefore it has no power amp circuitry, EQ, or anything of the nature of the guitar amp. Guitar speaker cabinets are made in a variety of speaker configurations. The way an amp company or retailer defines the number of speakers in a cabinet and the size in inches of the speaker is by this, “1x12”. That is notating that there is one, 12 inch speaker in that speaker cabinet. The typical range of speaker cabinets is 1x10, 1x12, 2x10, 2x12, 4x10, and 4x12. 1x8 as well as 3x10 and 3x12 speaker cabinets certainly do exist but are not as commonly seen or used.

Speaker cabinets will certainly do a lot to color the sound. Depending on the impedance rating (in ohms) of the amplifier you can plug any head into any cabinet; at this point it is all about what you’re going for as well as what you are willing to transport. For example, a 15 watt Marshall DSL head can certainly be plugged into a 4x12 Marshall guitar cabinet in which case you would get a really huge sound, especially for a 15 watt amp. However, you would probably not want to have to haul a 4x12 speaker cabinet to every gig you play. This is why it is important to consider a variety of guitar cabinets both in size and style to determine what is a good mix of the sound you want to hear and what is manageable to transport.

Another crucial aspect to deciding on a guitar amp cabinet is what type of speakers are in the cabinet. The better quality of the speakers that are in the cabinet, the better quality your sound will be produced. Whether it is Celestion, Eminence, Jensen, or other types of speakers, if your amp doesn’t already have a matching cabinet try a variety of styles to see which one works ideally for your amp. Even if you do have a matching cabinet, you may want another cabinet with a different speaker configuration. Contact us today for any questions regarding guitar amp speaker cabinets and we will happily assist you so you can find the right one for your rig.
