Are you looking to add that iconic tribal flare to your music or drumming? If so, the Djembe is the perfect drum to accomplish that for you. If you haven't participated in a drum circle it is a must because they can be a lot of fun and a great way of expanding your musical horizons while getting a very therapeutic and meditative experience. Few places, if any, have the selection and diverse array of percussion instruments that we have readily available in our inventory. We've noticed the importance to provide a wide range of musical and ethnic instruments so that people of any musical background can find the instruments they need here in our store.

First, let us discuss a little history about the Djembe. An interesting fact about the Djembe is that its name actually stems from a phrase meaning "everyone gather together in peace". Thus, we have the understanding of how the Djembe had really developed into a communal instrument. The Djembe is originally from West Africa where its use is heavily rooted in tribal music and African rhythms.

There are three methods which the djembe is played to create its main tonal characters which are bass, tone, and slap. Each of these is created through a different strike on the head of the djembe such as the palm of your hand towards the middle of the head, the firm side of the hand, as well as the fingertips along the rim of the drum. The djembe, like most hand drums, is typically made of a combination of a wooden shell and an animal hide or plastic drum head.

Here at N Stuff Music you can find a wide variety of djembes available that vary in design, style, and price depending on what your musical and budgetary needs are. As a premier dealer of Meinl products we have the full array of Meinl djembes available for you to purchase through N Stuff Music.

If there is a Meinl djembe or product that you are interested in that we do not currently have in stock just contact us and we can special order for you at no additional cost for you to purchase at our store.

A typical djembe ranges between 10"-13" in diameter, a larger size will give you more bass response and a smaller size will give you less bass response. Djembes can be played standing or sitting; to stand they have straps or ropes in which you can use to hold the djembe. While sitting it is most common to tilt the djembe slightly so that the bottom soundhole will resonate the sound properly. If you don't tilt the djembe its sound will be much quieter which can be necessary in some circumstances.

For a great selection of hand drums and percussion equipment contact us today at N Stuff Music. You will find that we have one of the best inventories of percussion gear whether it's small orchestral or auxiliary percussion, or ethnic hand drums and other instruments.
