First we should talk about what “1x12” means if you are new to the guitar cabinet world and have not already figured it out. “1x12” denotes the number of speakers in the cabinet and the size in inches of that speaker. So this configuration denotes that there is one speaker in the cabinet and it is a 12 inch speaker. There ya go! Simple as cake. Boy I could eat some cake, but I digress.

At N Stuff Music we have a wide variety of 1x12 speaker cabinets. There are quite a few benefits to using a 1x12 speaker cabinet. The first of these benefits is the transportation advantages of a single, twelve inch speaker cabinet. By only housing one speaker this cab is going to be very lightweight and come in a size-friendly package that will sit a small to medium size guitar amp head comfortably on top without disturbance. Remember, speaker cabinets do not have any of the tone, gain, or power circuitry in them so a 1x12 speaker cabinet and 1x12 combo amp are going to be completely different in terms of weight, the combo amp being significantly heavier than the cabinet. However, do not be fooled by the seemingly smaller nature of a 1x12 cabinet, because 12” speakers can absolutely pack a punch. They are filled with a wide tonal spectrum and push out lots of bass frequencies so it can certainly be a small but mighty package.

Our guitar cabinet brands range from 3rd Power, Friedman, Bogner, Mesa/Boogie, Suhr, Marshall, Fender, and others.

Be sure when selecting or playing through a guitar cabinet that your amp and guitar cabinet are rated at the same impedance (in ohms) so that they can both function properly and cooperatively. Some guitar amps contain external speaker jacks for different impedance ratings in which you would have a much wider range of speaker cabinets you could use with the amp.

A key factor in deciding what type of guitar cabinets are going to produce a good sound and be of good quality is what the cabinet is made of. Often times you will see quality cabinets being made of woods such as birch, pine, and other quality which not only make for a good sound, but a rather lightweight and durable package as well. The enclosure and size of the speaker cabinet will also determine lots of how the sound will breathe. A bigger cabinet itself will provide more space for the speaker to push air thus making the sound punch more and have greater presence, whereas a smaller cabinet is going to have a more focused sound.

The wattage listed for a speaker cabinet is going to tell what wattage the speakers are capable of handling, wattage that is higher than the speakers will pump too much into the speaker and potentially cause issues to the speaker cabinet and your sound. And also keep in mind you need a cabinet that is equal or greater in impedance than the guitar amp in order for the cabinet to function.
