Through attention to detail, high quality materials, hand-made quality, and brilliant aesthetics, Eastman Guitars have become a flagship brand of hollow, semi-hollow, and archtop guitars. These instruments have their very own place in the jazz guitar world in their ability to combine hand-made quality and craftsmanship with reasonable pricing. This has made Eastman one of the most popular archtop guitar brands in the industry. Eastman is a brilliant company filled with fantastic employees and representatives and we are very glad to be a dealer of Eastman guitars because it gives us the chance to provide consistently high-quality instruments to our customer base.

First let's discuss some details about what an archtop guitar is and how it gets its amazing sound.

Archtop guitars are exactly as the name implies, guitars made with an arched top as opposed to flat top guitars like acoustics, electric guitars, and even many semi-hollow guitars. The archtop guitar is a style of build that is much more reminiscent of other string instruments like the violin, viola, or cello. The hollow nature combined with the archtop creates its uniquely beautiful sound.

Many of the world's most famous and historical guitarists made an archtop guitar their signature sound. Wes Montgomery, one of the fathers of jazz guitar, utilized his L5 archtop guitar to create one of the most warm and full guitar sounds in history. T-Bone Walker used a hollow archtop guitar to create one of the most historical blues guitar sounds. Guitarists such as Pat Martino use guitars that are archtop instruments but in a smaller LP style body and are a really interesting combination of that body style with the tone of an archtop.

Archtop guitars, including many Eastman models, are often acoustic instruments with electronic capabilities. The acoustic capabilities of an archtop will often vary depending on if the top wood is laminate or solid. Laminate is basically many different pieces of wood pieced together to make a guitar top or back and sides. Solid wood is a single solid piece of wood matched with another to make a top or back and sides. Laminate wood is very durable and will withstand weather changes often a little better than solid wood. However, solid wood will have more acoustic resonance and thus the sound of the guitar is more from the body of the guitar than just the pickup. But it is all a matter of personal preference. Eastman does an excellent job manufacturing both solid wood guitars and laminate guitars as well as manufacturing combinations of both.
