After watching a few video clips of the custom guitars built by Mike Caldwell (on youtube) I decided to send my Strat body, neck & parts from Los Angeles to Mike to assemble together and custom wire the pickups with his special wiring scheme. Even though we have some good luthiers here in LA, I decided to take the plunge and spend the extra money. (UPS is not very gracious when it comes to shipping charges) Mike did a fantastic job in not only assembling the guitar, but every time I spoke to him on the phone, he was very courteous & offered the best advice. As for the pickup wiring. Wow... fantastic sounds from the combination of a toggle switch and push pull pot. I am very pleased with his work/craftsmanship and I would recommend his services to anyone who wants his guitar to function like a class A instrument. Joe from Los Angeles

On one of my recent visits to your store, I happened to mention I was building a solid-body electric guitar. Wow am I glad I did. Mike did an absolutely amazing job applying a stunning, multi-color lacquer finish, as well as helping me fine-tune it to make it a perfectly playable piece of art. When I talked to Mike Caldwell about the issues I'd been having (despite many years of trying different fixes) with my strat, he told me it'd take a couple days to get to do it. Well, after I explained that I was from out of town and my wife was expecting within the week, he went out of his way to get it done before close THAT DAY! I spent the time test driving guitars from the wide selection in store, figuring this might be the end of the line for the old strat, and worried I'd never be able to go back after playing high end Fenders, Suhrs, and PRSs. When he brought my guitar back a few minutes after the lights went down, I was astonished. My American strat was playing like a custom shop job. The intonation and action were perfect and the fret work was so precise, I thought he had to have done it by machine. Nope, the guy is just that good. Thanks so much Mike. It's a couple hour drive, but Mike is my go-to guy for guitar work for life! James
